What Is God Like: Letting Him Speak for Himself
Most of us carry around ideas about God—some we were taught, some we picked up along the way, and some we’ve quietly assumed after disappointment or pain. But what if the truest picture of God isn’t found in our guesses, fears, or projections… but in God’s own words?
In Exodus 34, God speaks his name aloud. Not a label, but a self-revelation. When Moses asks to see God’s glory, God responds by describing his character—who he is and what he’s like at the deepest level. This moment becomes one of the most quoted passages in all of Scripture, echoed again and again by prophets, poets, and Jesus himself.
In this series, we’ll slow down and take God at his word. We’ll spend a week with each phrase of God’s self-description—exploring what it meant then, what it means now, and how it reshapes the way we relate to God and one another in return.
This is a series about unlearning distortions, healing false images, and discovering a God who is more loving, patient, and faithful than we imagined—and far more compelling than the caricatures we’ve assumed over the years.
Because how we see God changes everything.
