Built Together: The Story & Future of Our Church

Ten years ago, twenty-five people from Columbia, SC took a kingdom risk–not fully knowing what God would build in Knoxville, TN. Since then, we’ve watched Him form something we could never have manufactured on our own: a people shaped by His presence, knit together by his Spirit, and a story that continues to unfold.

This year, we celebrate ten years of City Church. But anniversaries aren’t just about looking back—they’re about remembering in a way that shapes how we move forward. How is a community like ours actually built? What has God been doing beneath the surface over the past decade? And what does it look like for all of us–individually and together–to take ownership of what comes next?

In this series, we’ll revisit the defining moments, practices, and convictions that have shaped who we are from the beginning–from the way we pursue Jesus, to the way we live in relationship with each other, to the way we live out our mission in the city. Not simply to celebrate who we are, but to clarify and strengthen them for the future.

Because the reality is this: the church isn’t something we attend—it’s something we build together. And the story God is writing at our church isn’t finished. It’s just getting started. And each one of us has a role to play in the story.
